Proper Fluid Level Checking

This operation is easiest to perform with two people. One in the vehicle and one underneath the vehicle at the transmission pan.

In order to check the fluid you must first start the vehicle and ensure it has reached operating temperature. Then move the range selecter lever slowly through each gear, stopping in each position and allowing the transmission to engage. Finishing by leaving selecter lever in the parked position.

With the engine running the individual underneath the vehicle needs to hold the larger drain plug on the bottom of the transmission with a wrench and remove the small fluid level indicating plug, using a three sixteenths inch alan key.

Since fluid did not come out of the plug that means that the transmission is under filled and fluid needs to be added to bring it to the proper level.

Here you can see a transmission which has been over filled we need to allow the fluid to drain so we will wait approximately one minute.

When the fluid comes out in a thin stream or drip the fluid is that the correct level
